Pledgekeepers Motivation
PLEDGEKEEPERS MOTIVATION For many years our government, church and social institutions have sought solutions for national issues in Jamaica only to see them spiral out of control. These include:
- CrimeEconomy; GDP;
- Economic empowerment
- Debt
- Violence in schools
- Corruption
- Negative international image
- Negative competition, bullyism, segregation
- Dishonesty
- Culture of idleness; absence of vision and focus
among our youths - Family (Divided; single parent; fatherlessness)
- Moral decline
- Equity for all
Many fixes have been applied to include force, social intervention, strong penalties yet our efforts keep negating themselves and, in many areas, left us wondering with each year, decade and generation, how much worse can it become? Many will argue crime is out of control and has proven impossible to contain; as for economy we have sold out our economy to foreigners to attract investment. They will say that Jamaicans find it difficult to support their own; unless, of course, they are internationally recognized; that we only value imports, even when they are home grown. Instead of boosting our own and showing them to the world we allow the world to recognize them and show them to us, only then we take a look and begin celebrating. Speak of imports, moral decadence has been one of our least recognized but most prevalent imports and it is duty free.

PLEDGE ANSWERS PRAYERS IN ANTHEM
Many of the commitments in the national pledge are answers to the prayers in the national anthem.
The pledge and prayers are so intertwined that the author, in the book, The Covenant and the Call, highlighted the following:
PRAYER 1: Eternal Father bless our land.
free from evil powers, or be their light because they did not keep their part. Can God go beyond this and actively intervene in our nation if you pray constantly but refuse to value our covenant, should we say pledge, made before Him?
PLEDGE ANSWERS PRAYERS IN ANTHEM
Many of the commitments in the national pledge are answers to the prayers in the national anthem.
The pledge and prayers are so intertwined that the author, in the book, The Covenant and the Call, highlighted the following:
PRAYER 1: Eternal Father bless our land.
Response in the Pledge Service to our fellow-citizens and brotherhood (strengthens support for local businesses; collaboration, cooperation, helps each other to become successful) I pledge to think generously. Generosity had been one of the greatest spiritual laws that attracts the blessings of God and man. I pledge to work diligently I pledge to work creatively. Attitude of hard work and persistence speaks for itself.
PRAYER 2: Guard us with Your mighty hand
Answer: I, pledge to stand up for brotherhood and peace. We will agree that the main need for protection is internal threats. Jamaicans are more concerned about their safety in a crime filled nation than any other threat although these threats are real. There are also concern for obeah and wickedness. We need protection when we go out and come in; from travel, from accidents and external threats. If we all stand up for brotherhood and peace, our main concern for protection (internal threats) is settled. God will then guard us against all other threats which are rarer.
PRAYER 3: Keep us free from evil powers.
Answers: I pledge to stand up for brotherhood. Evil powers are broken down into evil spiritual powers and evil dictatorial nations. Evil spiritual powers cannot operate unless they are invited. The engagement of our citizen in witchcraft, occultism, obeah, blood sacrifices, money rituals and wickedness are the playground for demons. This gives evil spiritual forces, demons, the marine kingdom and other spiritual powers access. Standing for brotherhood caused disengagement and is the answer we seek from these spirits that causes poverty, oppression, strange illnesses, accidents and death. God will keep us free then from external threats of evil dictatorial powers as we fulfill our mandate of love and brotherhood.
PRAYER 4: Be our light through countless hours
Answer: Service to our fellow-citizens. We are asking God to be our light but His response is to make us lights to our world so He can shine through us. In fact, the Bible in Matthew 5 tells us to let our lights shine before others in such a way that people will see our good works (service to our fellow citizens) and glorify God. They will say, “Indeed, He is our light.”
PRAYER 5: To our leaders grant true wisdom from above.
Answer: I pledge my heart, mind and body in service to my fellow-citizens; also, I pledge to justice, brotherhood and peace. The Bible tells us that true wisdom from above, is pure,
peaceful, gentle, humble, merciful, full of good deeds in service to others and not partial.
PRAYER 6 Justice be ours forever
Answer: I pledge to stand up for justice
PRAYER 7 Truth be ours forever
Answer: I pledge to think honestly
PRAYER 8: Teach us true respect for all
Answer: I pledge my heart, mind and body in service to my fellow-citizens; also, I pledge to brotherhood
PRAYER 9: Stir response to the call of duty
Answer: I pledge to work diligently
PRAYER 10: Strengthen us the weak to cherish
Answer: I pledge my heart, mind and body in service to my fellow-citizens; also, I pledge to brotherhood
PRAYER 11: Give us vision lest we perish
Answer: So that Jamaica may under God increase in beauty, fellowship and prosperity and play her part in advancing the welfare of the whole human race. Local and global impact. There is purpose and impact in every performance of the pledge.
PRAYER 12: Send us knowledge, heavenly Father
Answer: I pledge to work diligently and creatively. This requires the acquisition of the necessary knowledge.
THE COVENANT VS THE CALL
Our national anthem is a call to God for answers and
solution. The pledge on the other hand is a covenant. Those who understand God will know it is impossible to attract answers from God if we do not align ourselves with His requirement of us. They will also know that unfulfilled vows made to God or before Him will cause Him to respond negatively to us. The question then is, can the lack of intentional regard for the pledge and determination to perform be a glass ceiling over the heads of our citizens. Could it be why our blessing in business is an easy pick for other nations and nationalities while few Jamaicans make headway. Certainly, where there is no vow there is no responsibility. Jesus did tell us not to swear. Is it possible that the pledge not only contains answers to our national dilemmas but also the reason why many of these exists?
WHILE WE CONTEMPLATE THESE, WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE PLEDGE. BEYOND ATTRACTING GOD’S FAVOR AND STIMULATING HIS RESPONSE TO OUR PRAYER IN THE ATHEM, FULFILLING THE PLEDGE BY THEMSELVES IS A COMPREHENSIVE BALM THAT CANNOT BE IGNORED.
The impact of keeping our national pledge goes beyond attracting the favor and answers of God. Every pledge is an answer and a healing balm that our nation badly needs.
Can you imagine the impact on Jamaica if instead of the culture of envy, pulling down each other, we give ourself to service and helping each other succeed. Instead of the crab mentality where we spend all our time fighting that no one succeeds if you don’t, (this of course is the witchcraft strongman mentality of our African ancestors; this is also what many foreigners have capitalized on to pay us the
wage range of our mentality, minimum wage) we help each other to the top and those above pull others up? This is the attitude of the Indian and Chinese business communities whose strong attitude of collaboration, cooperation and support has made them business leaders in Jamaica. Unfortunately, not much of their money is reinvested here, stays here or gets engaged in social intervention here.
Can you imagine the impact of brotherhood in our schools, our children’s education, the strong helping the weak, on bullying, partnership with the needy, care for the abused as a natural action, anti-gang culture?
Can you imagine our children growing up with a mental awareness and commitment to justice and its impact on crime, corruption, equity and fairness in our society?
Can you imagine the consciousness of our commitment to peace and its impact on gangs, politics, families, conflict resolution, unforgiveness, hatred, retaliatory action?
Can you imagine our commitment to creativity on industry, innovation, personal roadblocks and restrictive barriers; an unstoppable mentality?
Can you imagine the power of a people cultured to think generously on our wealth, success, equity, social well-being, and, if history and the Bible can be trusted, our personal and national prosperity and happiness and our international image?
Can you imagine the power of honest thinking on crime,
corruption, politics, our national debt, families and
relationship, scamming and devious repertoire of our nationals, international image and reception? Japan has a culture of honesty that is lauded internationally. You can leave your laptop or wallet anywhere in public in Japan and go back and find it; government officials are known to resign if they fail their election promises; there are so much public disgrace for dishonesty that citizen will commit suicide if caught in deceit. They will tell you it belittles a man to steal.
Can you imagine the power of living a life conscious that you are a global power broker; you have the power of global and national impact?
ALL OF THESE ARE NOT JUST DISTANT DREAMS BUT POWERFUL REALITIES CAPTURED IN OUR NATIONAL PLEDGE THAT WILL BECOME OUR REALITY IF OUR NATION CAN BE RECULTURED TO SEE THEM AS NOT PRAYER IN THE ATHEM, FULFILLING THE PLEDGE BY THEMSELVES IS A COMPREHENSIVE BALM THAT CANNOT BE IGNORED.
